El Salvador's Congress has passed a law granting expedited citizenship to investors who donate in bitcoin to the country's social and government programs.

The law is expected to come into force in the coming days, with the legislature passing it with support from President Nayib Bukele's controlling New Ideas party.

The reform applies to "altruistic foreigners interested in supporting the economic, social and cultural development of El Salvador ... by donating bitcoin."
